Adrian Sâmpetrean (born 1983 in Cluj-Napoca ) is a Romanian opera singer ( bass ).

Life

Sâmpetrean studied singing at the Gheorghe Dima Music Academy in his hometown, among others with his father, the bass Mircea Sampetrean , and attended master classes with Ion Buzea , Mariana Nicolesco and others. He has won awards at several international singing competitions, including the Hariclea Darclée and Eugenia Moldoveanu singing competitions. In 2006 he made his stage debut as Colline in Puccini's La Bohème at the Opera Națională Română in Cluj-Napoca and in 2007 took over the Raimondo in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor .

In the 2007/08 season Sâmpetrean was a member of the Opera Studio of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. This was followed by guest contracts at the Teatro Comunale Bologna (for Marschner's Der Vampyr ), at the Opéra de Monte Carlo (for Tchaikovsky's Pique Dame ) and at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein , which immediately signed him into their ensemble. In Düsseldorf and Duisburg he sang again Colline and Raimondo as well as Sparafucile (in Rigoletto ), Oroveso (in Norma ) and Angelotti (in Tosca ). In 2011 the singer made his debut at the Hamburg State Opera as Raimondo, was then signed for two seasons and took over the Alidoro in La Cenerentola , the Ramfis in Aida , the Mönch in Don Carlos and Don Basilio in the Barbiere di Siviglia . International engagements at major opera houses followed quickly:

Subsequently, Sâmpetrean took on the popular role of Dulcamara in L'elisir d'amore (in Monte Carlo, Rome and Liège), made his debut as Selim in Il turco in Italia at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence , and also sang the Leporello in Paris and Don Alfonso in Lucrezia Borgia in Hamburg. In the summer of 2015 he will return to the Salzburg Festival as Ferrando , and in 2016 his US debut at the Lyric Opera of Chicago is planned.
