Adrian Virginius the Elder

Adrian Virginius , also Adrian Verginius (born January 18, 1605 or 1615 in Wollin , Duchy of Pomerania , † April 23, 1647 ) was a Baltic German Lutheran theologian .

Virginius received his education first in Treptow and Kolberg in his Pomeranian homeland, then in Danzig . In 1636 and 1637 he studied at the University of Königsberg and at the University of Dorpat in Livonia . He stayed in Livonia and initially received the posts of deacon at St. John's Church and rector of the Dorpater city school. Then he became pastor in Nüggen near Dorpat and worked as an adjunct at the theological faculty of the University of Dorpat and as an assessor of the Livonian consistory. He has published some theological disputations.

His son Andreas Virginius also became a Lutheran theologian and made a name for himself as a translator of spiritual writings into Dörpt-Estonian .
