Aeon Zen is an English progressive metal band from London that was formed in 2008.
history
The band was founded in 2008 around the multi-instrumentalist and music student Rich Hinks. In 2009 the debut album A Mind's Portrait was released , on which Nils K. Rue ( Pagan's Mind ), Elyes Bouchoucha ( Myrath ) and Andreas Novak ( Mind's Eye ) can be heard as guest vocalists , who already signed up for the second in October 2010 The Face of the Unknown followed. The album features guest musicians such as Michael Eriksen ( Circus Maximus ), Andi Kravljaca ( Silent Call , Seventh Wonder ), Nick D'Virgilio ( Spock's Beard ), Jem Godfrey ( Frost * ) and Jonny Tatum ( Eumeria ). In 2012 the band went on a European tour with Devin Townsend Project , which included twelve performances. In 2013, the next album followed under the name Enigma . This includes Nate Loosemore from Lost in Thought , Atle Pettersen from Above Symmetry and Jonny Tatum from Eumeria as guest singers. The EP Self Portrait was released towards the end of the year . In 2014, the album Ephemera was released , which was produced, mixed and mastered by Rich Hinks. In the same year the band also played at ProgPower Europe .
style
According to the band biography on aeonzen.com , the band for Enigma was influenced by bands like Dream Theater , Metallica and Opeth . In her review of The Face of the Unknown , Katrin Dietl from Metal Hammer stated that in addition to Hinks, who can be heard in two songs, numerous singers from the progressive metal sector can be heard. The album is arranged like a musical and also demands a great deal of attention from the listener. Detlef Dengler from Metal Hammer noted in his review of Enigma influences from Symphony X , Megadeth , Genesis , Cynic and Opeth. In some songs, the band also makes use of growling .
