Aeonium appendiculatum is a species of the genus Aeonium in the thick-leaf family(Crassulaceae).

description

Vegetative characteristics

Aeonium appendiculatum grows as a perennial , monocarpid , not branched subshrub and reaches heights of up to 1 meter. The smooth, gray shoots have a diameter of up to 9 centimeters. Their rather flat rosettes reach a diameter of 30 to 35 centimeters. The obovate to slightly obovate, glaucous , bare leaves are 11 to 20 centimeters long, 2.5 to 4 centimeters wide and 0.3 to 0.5 centimeters thick. Towards the tip they are tapered, very finely pointed and usually have an attached tip. The base is wedge-shaped. The edge of the leaf is covered with unicellular eyelashes that are up to 0.5 centimeters long.

Generative characteristics

The dome-shaped inflorescence has a length of 25 to 40 centimeters and a width of 20 to 30 centimeters. The eight-fold flowers are on a 1.5 to 3 millimeter long, bare flower stalk and have a diameter of up to 1.4 centimeters. Their sepals are bare. The white, often pink-patterned, lanceolate petals are 6 to 7 millimeters long and 2 to 2.5 millimeters wide. The white stamens and carpels are bare.

Systematics and distribution

Aeonium appendiculatum is widespread on La Gomera at altitudes of 100 to 900 meters.
