description

Vegetative characteristics

Aeonium glutinosum forms perennial , grass-shaped or slightly bushy rosette plants . The bald, sticky and smooth shoots reach a diameter of 7 to 20 millimeters. The cup-shaped rosettes have a diameter of 12 to 22 centimeters. The pale to pale green, obovate-spatulate leaves are pointed at their tips and wedge-shaped at the base. Your almost bald leaf blade is 7 to 12 inches long, 3 to 5.5 inches wide and 2 to 4.5 millimeters thick. The edge of the leaf is covered with very few to numerous, straight to curved eyelashes up to 0.5 millimeters in length. Brownish stripes are usually present along the midrib and near the tip.

Inflorescences and flowers

The very loose, sticky inflorescence is 15 to 40 centimeters high and 15 to 30 centimeters wide. The inflorescence stalk is 10 and 25 centimeters long. The eight- to ten-fold flowers are on slightly downy-haired pedicels 2 to 10 millimeters in length. Your sepals are weakly downy hairy. The yellow, egg-shaped to lanceolate petals with red lines on the underside are 5 to 7 millimeters long and 2 to 3 millimeters wide. The stamens are bare.

Chromosome number

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 36.

Systematics and distribution

Aeonium glutinosum inhabits rocky habitats and is widespread on Madeira Island . It rarely occurs on the lower neighboring islands of Porto Santo and Deserta Grande . The vertical distribution extends from just above sea level to 1700 meters.

The first description as Sempervivum glutinosum by William Aiton was published in 1789. Philip Barker Webb and Sabin Berthelot put the species in the genus Aeonium in 1840 .
