Affala (also: Afala ) is a rural community in the Tahoua department in Niger .
geography
Affala is in the north of the Ader landscape in the Sahel . The neighboring communities are Tillia in the north, Kao in the northeast, Barmou in the southeast, Tahoua in the south and Takanamat in the west. There are 37 villages and 87 hamlets in the municipality. The main town of the rural community is the village of Affala. Another large village is Taza .
history
Affala was founded by a farmer from the neighboring village of Barmou. The rural community of Affala emerged in 2002 as part of a national administrative reform from the northern part of the canton of Tahoua and a southern section of the community-free area in the department of Tchintabaraden .
population
At the 2012 census, Affala had 68,225 inhabitants. The population at the 2001 census was 34,101. The most important ethnic groups in the municipality are Hausa , Tuareg and Fulbe . Affala has been affected by seasonal migratory movements for decades, which are mainly directed to Libya , Cameroon , Gabon , Senegal and Europe.
Economy and Infrastructure
The agriculture practiced throughout the municipality includes the cultivation of millet, sorghum , cowpeas and peanuts and suffers from low rainfall, poor soils and a lack of modern farming techniques. Raising cattle, goats, donkeys, and horses is the second most important economic activity in the rural community. There are five weekly markets in Affala, but their poor infrastructure only allows the community to receive little tax. A desert road connects the main town with the regional capital Tahoua, 25 kilometers further south.
