Afflicted was a Swedish metal band from Stockholm , which was founded in 1988 under the name Afflicted Convulsion and split up in 1995.

history

The band was founded in 1988 under the name Afflicted Convulsion by guitarist Jesper Thorsson. A first self-titled demo followed. After Joakim Bröms, a new singer, joined the band in 1990 to replace Martin Holm, the group changed its name to Afflicted. With the guitarist Joakim Carlsson (ex- Dismember ), the bassist Philipp von Segebaden and the drummer Yasin Hillborg followed the demo Wanderland and the single Ingrained via Thrash Records . By Hiking was Nuclear Blast aware of the band, so that the Group signed a contract with that label. In the fall of 1992 the debut album Prodigal Sun followed, the songs from the demos between 1989 and 1991, as well as with Harboring Souls and Rising to the Sun two new songs. In 1995 the second album Dawn of Glory followed , whereupon Michael van de Graf could be heard as the new singer. In addition, the band held performances together with Entombed , Therion and Dismember. The band broke up that same year.

style

The band played classic death metal on their debut Prodigal Sun , comparable to the music of Entombed, with influences from Doom and Thrash metal . The group sometimes used unusual song structures and sound effects, such as wah-wah sounds . The Metal Hammer wrote, sword album, "as if Voivod Death Metal play". According to Allmusic , the band was one of the first death metal groups to use progressive elements in their songs. On the second album, Dawn of Glory , the band turned completely away from Death Metal and towards Power Metal. The main reason for this was the new singer van de Graf, who was vocally more variable and did not use guttural but clear vocals.
