The Afon Cadnant is a river on Anglesey in Wales . The Afon Cadnant created east of the village Llanddona and location flows in a generally southerly direction to its mouth east Menai Bridge in the Straits of Menai Straits which separates Anglesey from the Welsh mainland.
Before the river turns into an estuary between the islands of Ynys Gaint and Ynys Castell in the flats of the strait , it flows in its lower reaches through the Cadnant Dingle valley, which is protected as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) . The name of the nature reserve translates as 'fast flowing (river) narrow valley'. In the narrow valley, the river creates a very humid climate in a dense forest consisting mainly of oak and ash , in which ferns and mosses also thrive very well. The forest is an example of the original Anglesey forest, largely destroyed by modern agriculture.
