Aftershock ( Chinese 唐山 大 地震 , Pinyin Tángshān Dàdìzhèn ) is a Chinese disaster film from 2010. The film is about the Tangshan earthquake on July 27, 1976. Directed by Feng Xiaogang . The budget was just under $ 25 million.

In 1976 Tangshan was hit by a massive earthquake that tore apart two siblings, along with numerous other victims. Her mother has to decide which of the two children will be rescued, as a concrete slab threatens to crush them both. According to the still prevailing understanding of the value of children, she decides in favor of the son who loses an arm as a result of the accident but survives. His mother stays in town with him. The daughter, too, was later found alive and grew up as an adopted daughter of Red Army soldiers in another city.
In the 2008 Sichuan earthquake , the siblings meet again as part of the rescue operation.
