Agathis flavescens is a species of plant fromthe Araucaria family (Araucariaceae). It is endemic to Malaysia .
description
Agathis flavescens grows as an evergreen tree that can reach heights of around 12 meters and a diameter of around one meter at chest height . The brittle trunk bark with numerous resin vesicles is colored green to brown. The bark of the branches is yellowish.
The leaves are on a short petiole and are with a length of 3.8 to 6.3 centimeters and a width of 1.2 to 2.5 centimeters elliptical to obovate, with a blunt tip. The upper side of the leaf is yellow-green and the underside is blue-green.
The male cones stand on a stalk up to 1.5 centimeters long and are cylindrical in shape with a length of 2.5 to 3.8 centimeters and a thickness of about 1.3 centimeters. The spherical female cones are about 6.3 inches long and about 4.5 inches thick. They ripen in the second year and are then purple in color. The elliptical seeds are up to about 1.3 inches long and about 0.6 inches wide. They have two wings, the longer wing is up to 1.2 inches long.
Distribution and location
The natural range of Agathis flavescens is in Malaysia . There it occurs only on the mountains Gunung Tahan and Gunung Rabong on the Malay Peninsula .
Agathis flavescens grows in mountain forests at altitudes of 900 to 2100 meters, especially on soils that developed on quartzite .
Agathis flavescens is classified as "endangered" in the IUCN Red List . No endangerment reason is given, but the small size of the herd could create a hazard in the future. The total stock is estimated at around 1000 trees, but is considered stable.

Agathis flavescens is assigned to the Agathis section within the genus of the Kauri trees ( Agathis ) .
It was first described as Agathis flavescens in 1914 by Henry Nicholas Ridley in Kew Bulletin , page 332. Synonyms for Agathis flavescens Ridl. are Agathis celebica subsp. flavescens (Ridl.) Veldkamp & Whitmore and Agathis dammara subsp. flavescens (Ridl.) Whitmore .
