Agave × ajoensis is a Arthybride from the genus of the Agave ( agave ). Their hybrid parents are Agave deserti var. Simplex and Agave schottii var. Schottii .

description

Agave × ajoensis grows solitary or forms groups with a height of 19 to 40 cm and a diameter of 25 to 45 cm. The linear to lanceolate, stiff, variably arranged, green, striped leaves are 16 to 34 cm long and 1.5 to 3 cm wide. The leaf margins are serrated irregularly near the base. The red-brown end thorn is 1.5 to 2.5 cm long.

The somewhat spike-shaped, racemose to panicle inflorescence is 2.5 to 3.5 m high. The yellow flowers are 32 to 53 mm long and appear in large clusters on the upper part of the inflorescence on irregularly arranged, loose branches. The flower tube is 6 to 16 mm long. The elliptical, three-chamber capsule fruits are 12 to 21 mm long and up to 10 mm wide.

The flowering period extends from June to July.

Systematics and distribution

Agave × ajoensis grows endemic to Arizona in the United States on stony slopes, in desert bushes, and in grasslands at altitudes of 900 to 1050 m. He is considered rare, only a few plants growing in a geographically isolated area in the Ajo Mountains in Pima County .
