Agave decipiens is a plant from the genus of the Agave ( agave ). An English common name is "Florida Agave".
description
Agave decipiens grows individually and forms a trunk of 1 to 3 m. It forms runners . The variable, narrow, fleshy, lanceolate green leaves are 75 to 100 cm long and 7 to 10 cm wide. The leaf margins are serrated. The dark brown end thorn is 1 to 2 cm long.
The panicle inflorescence becomes 3 to 5 m high. The green to yellow flowers are 60 to 80 mm long and appear in the upper area of the inflorescence and reach the tip, on irregularly arranged branches. Often form bulbils . The funnel-shaped flower tube is 11 to 13 mm long.
The elliptical to elongated three-chambered capsule fruits are 35 to 50 mm long.
The flowering period extends from June to July.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 180.
Systematics and distribution
Agave decipiens grows in Florida in the United States in coastal regions and in Mexico in the state of Yucatan .
The first description by John Gilbert Baker was published in 1892. Synonyms are Agave laxifolia Baker and Agave spiralis Brandegee ex A. Berger .
Agave decipiens is a member of the Rigidae group . It is geographically isolated, with the exception of Agave neclecta . Launched by the peninsula Yucatan material derived is probably of cultivated origin. The leaves are up to 2 m long in nutrient-rich soils.
Agave decipiens is grown in the Huntington Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California.
