description

Agave felgeri grows sprouting. The dense rosettes are up to 80 cm wide. The green to yellow-green, linear, variably arranged, rough leaves with stripes and prints ( Agave schottii has smooth leaves) are 25 to 35 cm long and 0.7 to 1.5 cm wide. The angular, brown leaf margins are fibrous. The gray terminal mandrel is 0.8 to 1.5 cm long.

The annual inflorescence is 0.5 to 2.4 m high. The yellow flowers are 25 to 30 mm long and appear on the upper part to the tip of the inflorescence on the variably arranged branches. The flower tube is 2 to 4 mm long.

The elongated to egg-shaped three-chambered capsule fruits are 15 to 20 mm long and 9 to 12 mm wide. The black, variably shaped seeds are 4 to 5 mm long and 1.5 to 3 mm wide.

The flowering period extends from May to August.

Systematics and distribution

Agave felgeri grows in Mexico in the state of Sonora in coastal dry areas.

The first description by Howard Scott Gentry was published in 1972.

Agave felgeri , a member of the Filiferae group , is considered rare. Few colonies are located near Bahia San Carlos and the surrounding area. Due to the habitual similarity and the geographical distribution of Agave schottii , the species according to Ullrich is to be placed in the Parviflorae section . Nevertheless, differences in the flower structure and leaf structure can be seen. Within the Filiferae group, Agave felgeri grows in the driest regions.
