Agave isthmensis is a plant from the genus of the Agave ( agave ).
description
Agave isthmensis forms small, compact rosettes with a height of 17 to 32 cm and a diameter of 25 to 36 cm. It forms abundant rhizomatous offshoots. The broad, roughened gray to bluish leaves are 8 to 10 cm long, 5 to 8 cm wide and narrowed towards the base. The leaf margins are deeply notched. The strong, brown to reddish marginal teeth are arranged variably. The brown to reddish end thorn is 1 to 1.5 cm long.
The paniculate, elongated, straight inflorescence is 1.7 to 2.2 m high. The fleshy, yellow flowers are 38 to 46 mm long and appear on the upper part of the inflorescence on irregularly arranged branches. The funnel-shaped, three-furrow tube is 4 to 5 mm long.
The egg-shaped three-chamber capsule fruits are 16 to 22 mm long and 10 to 18 mm. The black seeds are 2 to 4 mm long and 1 to 2 mm wide.
The flowering period extends from July to September.
Systematics and distribution
Agave isthmensis grows in Mexico in the states of Oaxaca and Chiapas in woodland up to 900 m height.
The first description by Abisai Josue García-Mendoza and Felipe Palma was published in 1993.
Agave isthmensis is a member of the Hiemiflorae group . The small, compact rosettes with broad, roughened, gray to bluish leaves are characteristic. The species makes abundant rhizomatous offshoots. It is related to Agave potatorum and Agave seemanniana ( Agave pygmaea ), but differences in size, shape and leaf structure can be seen.
