description
Vegetative characteristics
Agave lagunae grows with open, medium-sized, individual rosettes . Its few glaucous green, linear to lanceolate, pointed leaves are flat to concave. The leaf surface is finely roughened. The leaf blade is 40 to 70 inches long and 8 to 12 inches wide. The leaf margin is almost straight. There are 4 to 6 millimeters long peripheral teeth on it, which are 10 to 30 millimeters apart. The dark brown, slender marginal teeth are usually curved and their base is slightly raised. The dark brown, awl- shaped end thorn has an open, narrow furrow. It is 30 to 40 millimeters long.
Inflorescences and flowers
The fairly open, "panicle" inflorescence reaches a length of 3 to 4 meters. The rather small partial inflorescences are 15 to 20 centimeters long and are located in the upper half of the inflorescence. The slender flowers are 60 to 70 millimeters long. Their tepals are yellow. The tips are 18 to 21 millimeters long. The funnel-shaped flower tube has a length of 7 to 10 millimeters. The slender, cylindrical ovary is 39 to 45 millimeters long.
Systematics and distribution
Agave lagunae is common in Guatemala in mesophytic mountain forests at altitudes of 1000 meters. The species is only known from the locality of the type.
The first description by William Trelease was published in 1915.
