The flowering period extends from August to September.

Systematics and distribution

Agave phillipsiana grows endemically in Arizona in the inner Grand Canyon on stony open slopes, in open woodland at 700 to 1150 m. It is in Tapeals Creek at an altitude of 1090 m with Sclerocactus parviflorus subsp. havasupaiensis , Opuntia engelmannii and Yucca baccata .

The first description by Wendy C. Hodgson was published in 2001.

Agave phillipsiana is a representative of the Ditepalae section . It is extremely rare and only a few small colonies grow in a geographically isolated area in the inner Grand Canyon of Arizona . The species makes large open rosettes with numerous rhizomatous offshoots. It is related to Agave delamateri and Agave palmeri , but there are differences in size, shape, leaf and flower structure. The Agave utahensis subsp. Found in the east of the inner Grand Canyon . kaibabensis inhabits colder regions and is smaller overall.

Agave phillipsiana is grown in the Desert Botanic Garden in Tucson, Arizona.
