description
Vegetative characteristics
Agave portoricensis grows with single rosettes . Your first somewhat bright glauken , dark green later, shiny, broadly lance-shaped, slightly pointed leaves are concave and slightly folded lengthwise. The leaf blade is 100 to 150 centimeters long and 15 to 20 centimeters wide. The leaf margin is somewhat concave. There are 2 to 5 millimeter long peripheral teeth on it, which are usually 15 to 30 millimeters apart. The conspicuously triangular, straight or backward-facing marginal teeth arise from a lens-shaped base. The chocolate to chestnut brown, shiny terminal spine is conical-sub-like, somewhat curved, occasionally compressed at the sides and thickened at its base. It is shallowly furrowed almost to the tip or has inwardly directed edges. The end pin is 10 to 15 millimeters (rarely up to 20 millimeters) long. It runs down several times its length and is pressed into the green leaf tissue.
Inflorescences and flowers
The narrow, elongated, "paniculate" inflorescence reaches a length of 5 to 6 meters. The partial inflorescences are located on almost horizontal branches in the upper half of the inflorescence or more. The inflorescence bears bulbils . The flowers are about 55 millimeters long. Their tepals are greenish yellow. The tips are 15 millimeters long. The conical flower tube has a length of 7 millimeters. The elongated spindle-shaped ovary is 30 to 35 millimeters long.
fruit
The almost spherical fruits are 2.5 to 3 inches long and 2 to 2.5 inches wide. They are stalked and slightly beaked.
Systematics and distribution
Agave portoricensis is common on the islands of Puerto Rico and Culebra .
The first description by William Trelease was published in 1913.
