Agave producta is a species of plant from the genus Agave ( Agave ) in the subfamily of the Agave family (Agavoideae). The specific epithet producta comes from Latin , means 'extended' and refers to the long leaves of the species.

description

Agave producta reaches heights of 80 to 90 centimeters. The trunk is onion-like at the base and has a diameter of 1.2 to 3.5 centimeters. The green, sometimes not very streaky , elongated and lanceolate leaves are about 30 centimeters long and 1 to 1.2 centimeters wide near the tip. They are flat at the top and trough-shaped at the bottom.

The "eared" inflorescence has more than 20 flowers arranged in pairs . The reddish shaft at the base is glaucous above and bare along its entire length. The ovoid-linear bracts are pointed. At 10 to 15 millimeters, they are just as long as the reddish flower stalks . The total of 2 centimeters long tepals of the flowers are red. The slender flower tube is curved over its base and is approximately at right angles to the ovary axis . The tips of anthers protrude slightly out of the flower tube.

Nothing is known about the fruits and seeds .

Systematics and distribution

Agave producta is common in the Mexican state of Guerrero .

The first description as Polianthes elongata by Joseph Nelson Rose was published in 1906. Joachim Thiede and Urs Eggli placed the species in the genus Agave in 1999 . They had to choose a new name because the species Agave elongata Jacobi (1865) already existed.

The species belongs to the subgenus Manfreda and is assigned to the Polianthes group there. She is hardly known.
