The first description by Joseph zu Salm-Reifferscheidt-Dyck was published in 1859. Synonyms are Agave striata var. Stricta Baker and Agave striata subsp. stricta B.Ullrich .

Agave stricta is a member of the Striatae group . The species is related to Agave striata , although slight differences in shape, leaf and flower structure can be seen. When it is dry, it can tolerate short periods of frost down to minus 4 ° C. Agave stricta is grown in the Desert Botanical Garden in Arizona.
