Agnes Delsarto

Agnes Delsarto (born December 14, 1892 in Freiburg im Breisgau , † November 19, 1965 in Basel ), also del Sarto , actually Agnes Schöpperle , was a German actress and singer .

Life

She learned the trade of a seamstress in her place of birth. She took language lessons in Karlsruhe and was on stage in Lucerne in 1911/1912 with a permanent commitment . The first leading role was given to her with the Elektra by Hugo von Hoffmannsthal at the Freilichtspiele Hertenstein.

In 1913 she returned to Germany and worked in Bremen until 1918 , first at the Schauspielhaus, then at the Deutsches Theater. From Bremen she moved to the Städtische Bühnen in Leipzig, where she took on leading and title roles until 1923 in Rose Bernd and Biberpelz by Gerhart Hauptmann, Sappho and Das Goldene Vlies by Franz Grillparzer .

As a musical autodidact, she performed as a singer of folk songs and played the lute. She gave many concerts in Germany and Switzerland, including more than 150 in Leipzig from 1921.

With her family - she was married to the actor Alfred Schlageter (1896–1981) - she moved to Switzerland during the Second World War in the early 1940s. She continued her career at the Stadttheater Basel, where her husband had a permanent position. There she mostly got smaller roles. She also had individual commitments in touring theater productions, at the Komödie Basel, at the Stadttheater Luzern and in Zurich at the Theater am Central.
