Agostino Baroni

Agostino Baroni MCCI (born October 5, 1906 in San Giorgio di Piano , † November 10, 2001 in Khartoum ) was Archbishop of Khartoum .

Life

Agostino Baroni joined the order of the Comboni Missionaries and was ordained a priest on April 5, 1930 .

Pius XII. appointed him on June 29, 1953 Vicar Apostolic of Khartoum and Titular Bishop of Balecium . The Archbishop of Bologna , Cardinal Giacomo Lercaro , consecrated him bishop on September 21 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Danio Bolognini , Bishop of Cremona , and Raffaele Baratta , Bishop of Rieti .

Pope Paul VI elevated the Apostolic Vicariate to the Archbishopric on December 12, 1974 and thus he was appointed Archbishop of Khartoum. He attended all sessions of the Second Vatican Council except for the third. On October 10, 1981, John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
