Agostino Gaetano Riboldi
Cardinal Agostino Gaetano Riboldi (born February 18, 1839 in Paderno Dugnano , † April 25, 1902 in Ravenna ) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church .
Life
Almost nothing is known about the childhood and career of the future cardinal. What is certain, is considered that Riboldi in on Aug. 11, 1861 Milan , the ordination received. Then Riboldi worked from 1861 to 1877 as a professor of physics , mathematics and natural history at the seminaries in Milan and Monza . At the same time he worked as an archaeologist and was responsible for the identification of the tombs of St. Ambrose of Milan , Gervasius and Protasius . He later founded Rivista di scienze fisiche e matematiche , a science magazine that appears at regular intervals.
On March 12, 1877 Riboldi was appointed Bishop of Pavia . He was ordained bishop on April 22, 1877 by Lucido Maria Parocchi , Archbishop of Bologna , co- consecrators were Paolo Angelo Ballerini , Latin Patriarch of Alexandria , and Francesco Sabbia , Bishop of Crema . On April 15, 1901, he was transferred to the Archbishopric of Ravenna as Archbishop .
After Riboldi on November 20, 1885 as an advisor to Pope Leo XIII. rose, he was admitted to the college of cardinals on the same day that he was proclaimed Archbishop of Ravenna, on April 15, 1901 . Three days later, on April 18, 1901, the biretta and the cardinal's ring were presented to him and he was given the titular church of Santi Nereo e Achilleo .
Cardinal Riboldi died three days after his 25th anniversary as bishop, on April 25, 1902, at the age of 63. He found his final resting place in the Pavia cemetery .
