The aghul people or Aguls ( russ . Агулы) are a Caucasian people. Most of them live in the Autonomous Republic of Dagestan in Russia . According to the last census in 2010, the population in Dagestan (around 1%) and 34,160 throughout Russia, making it one of the smallest in Russia. The majority of the Aguli are Sunni Muslims.

The Aguli language belongs to the north-eastern group of the Caucasus languages . It was divided into the following dialects: Keren , Koschan and Gechun . In addition, virtually all the Aguli speak the Russian language ; Azerbaijani and Lesgian are spoken in some families .

The main settlement area of ​​the Agulians is the basin of the rivers Tschiragtschai and Kurach in the river system of the Samur in the mountains of southern Dagestan. About 67% of the Agulians live in the country - the majority in the Agulski rajon around Tpig , where they make up over 90% of the population. Other settlement areas are the cities of Makhachkala (with the nearby settlements of Shamchal and Tyube ), Derbent and Dagestanskije Ogni .

The Agulians have always lived from agriculture and cattle breeding, and lately more and more people have been working in industry .
