Don Agustín Muñoz Grandes , German spelling: Munoz-Grandes, (born January 27, 1896 in Carabanchel Bajo , Madrid ; † July 11, 1970 , ibid) was a Spanish general , first commander of the Blue Division , politician and deputy from 1962 to 1967 Prime Minister of his country.

Life

Muñoz Grandes entered the Infantry Military Academy in Toledo in 1913 and became a Spanish officer. He fought first in Spanish Morocco and in the civil war on the national side. During the Second World War , as a commander (with the rank of lieutenant general of the Wehrmacht ), he led the 250th Infantry Division (Spanish) consisting of Spanish volunteers, also known as the Blue Division after the shirts of the Falange , in the war of the German Empire against the Soviet Union. Awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross by Adolf Hitler on March 12, 1942 and the Oak Leaves on December 12, 1942 when the division was handed over to Major General Emilio Esteban Infantes y Martín , he made one after his return to Spain in 1943 steep military career.

In 1945 he was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the First Military Region. From 1951 to 1957 he was the Spanish Minister of Defense. Between 1962 and 1967 he was Deputy Prime Minister.
