Emilio Esteban-Infantes

Emilio Esteban-Infantes y Martín , German spelling: Emilio Esteban-Infantes (born May 18, 1892 in Toledo , † September 5, 1960 in Madrid ) was a Spanish general and general staff officer, most recently in the rank of lieutenant general .

He entered the Toledo Infantry Academy in 1907 and became a Spanish officer. He also served in Spanish Morocco. First he fought on the Spanish national side in the Spanish Civil War . Later, in World War II , he led the 250th Infantry Division (Spanish) or Blue Division as a commander, most recently in the rank of Lieutenant General of the Wehrmacht , on the Eastern Front. On December 12, 1942, he took over the command of this volunteer division of the German army, which he led until its dissolution on October 20, 1943, as the successor to Lieutenant General of the Wehrmacht Don Augustín Muñoz Grandes .

For his achievements he was awarded the German Cross in Gold on April 9, 1943 as well as the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on October 3, 1943 and also with the Order of Merit of the German Eagle 1st Level with Swords and the commemorative medal for the Spanish volunteers in combat Awarded against Bolshevism by the German side in 1944.
