The valley of the Togiak River and the upstream Togiak Lake and Upper Togiak Lake form the border with the Wood River Mountains to the east . West of Chikuminuk Lake is the transition to the Kuskokwim Mountains, which run further north . To the south and west is the coast of the Bering Sea .
The mountains cover 80 percent of the area of the Togiak National Wildlife Refuge . The mountain range extends from 130 km to 50 km. In the northeast of the Ahklun Mountains, the peaks reach heights of over 1500 m. There are about a dozen glaciers in this area, including the Chikuminuk Glacier .
