The Togiak River is a 93 km long tributary of the Bering Sea in southwest Alaska .

It rises west of the Wood River Mountains in the Togiak National Wildlife Refuge from Togiak Lake , flows south-southwest and flows into Togiak Bay , a side bay of Bristol Bay , at Togiak . The Togiak River separates the Wood River Mountains from the Ahklun Mountains to the west .

The name of the native inhabitants of Alaska for the river was documented in 1852 by Captain Mikhail Tebenkov of the Imperial Russian Army as "R (eka) Tugiyak". Ivan Petroff first used today's spelling in a census in 1880.

All five salmon species on the North American Pacific coast are found in the Togiak River . The arctic smelt , rainbow trout , pike , arctic grayling , dolly varden trout ( Salvelinus malma ) and arctic char are also part of the fish fauna of the river system.
