Ai Yori Aoshi ( Japanese 藍 よ り 青 し , German "bluer than indigo") is a manga series by the Japanese illustrator Kō Fumizuki . The over 3,000-page manga, which can be assigned to his genre and was published from 1998 to 2005, was filmed in two anime series and implemented as computer games.
action
The single student Kaoru Hanabishi ( 花 菱 薫 ) meets his fiancée Aoi Sakuraba ( 桜 庭 葵 ), whose family includes a Depāto . Kaoru was born out of wedlock into the Zaibatsu Hanabishi family. After his father's death, his mother was cast out and he was raised under frequent beatings by his grandfather, the family patriarch. When his mother died, too, nothing kept him from the Hanabishis and he left the family.
Aoi, who asks him to return to the Hanabishis, so that a marriage between the two becomes befitting and acceptable to Aoi's family, he initially considers a bait for the Hanabishis. This misunderstanding is soon cleared up, however, and Aoi moves into his student apartment, where she learns about his tough childhood. When Aoi's governess Miyabi Kagurazaki ( 神 楽 崎 雅 ) and Aoi's mother ask them to forget about this improper engagement, Aoi, otherwise a perfect Yamato nadeshiko , contradicts them for the first time. However, you can convince her to move into a Sakurabas mansion, but in order to avoid a scandal, Kaoru has to live as a tenant in the workers' house and Aoi has to pose as his landlady.
Kaoru's club mates, the half-American Tina Foster ( テ ィ ナ ・ フ ォ ス タ ー ) and the clumsy Taeko Minazuki ( 水 無 月 妙 子 ), who are looking for an apartment, move in with them, the latter as a maid. This makes it difficult for both of them to deepen their relationship, which later becomes even more complicated with the appearance of Mayu Ayuki ( 美幸 繭 ) and the arrival of Taeko's cousin Chika Minazuki ( 水 無 月 ち か ).
Publications
Ai Yori Aoshi appeared from 1998 to August 2005 in individual chapters in the Japanese manga magazine Young Animal , in which, at the same time, Kentaro Miura's Berserk and Katsu Aki's manga Love Story were published. The Hakusensha Publishing House summed up this single chapter as of May 1999, in anthologies together, a total of seventeen of which are published.
The manga was also published in the United States, People's Republic of China, Hong Kong, North America, Spain, Mexico, France, and Germany. Egmont Manga & Anime published the German version of the seventeen volumes.
Adaptations
Anime
A 24-episode anime series based on the manga was animated by the JCStaff studio . Masami Shimoda directed the script and Ken'ichi Kanemaki wrote the script based on the manga . The television series premiered on Fuji TV from April 11th to September 26th, 2002 shortly after midnight (the previous television day) .
A continuation of the first anime series followed under the title Ai Yori Aoshi - Enishi ( 藍 よ り 青 し ~ 縁 ~ , Eng . "Blueer than Indigo - love connection"). This consists of twelve episodes. For this, a preview called Miyuki was produced in which Kaoru the "Santa Claus" appears in the form of Aoi. The staff remained largely the same. This series, like the first, was released on DVD in North America and France. This was also broadcast shortly after midnight on TV Saitama from October 12, 2003 to December 28 , with a one-day time lag on TV Kanagawa and again a day later on Chiba TV .
However, both animes only cover the plot of the first 1-2 years of the manga.
