Aichryson dumosum is a species of the Aichryson genusin the Crassulaceae family.

Vegetative characteristics

Aichryson dumosum grows as an annual or biennial , rather sparsely branched, bald to sparsely hairy, herbaceous plant and reaches heights of 15 to 30 centimeters. The bare shoots have a diameter of 4 to 7 millimeters. The lower branches are dichotomously ascending. Their indistinctly stalked, inverted lanceolate, blunt, tiny downy-haired, often purple-tinged leaves are 12 to 18 millimeters long and 3 to 4 millimeters wide. Its base is narrowed. The leaf blade is widest above the center .

Generative characteristics

The many-flowered inflorescence is more or less evenly. The six to seven-fold flowers are on a stalk up to 9 millimeters long and have a diameter of 8 to 10 millimeters. Their sepals are almost bare. The bright yellow, egg-shaped, pointed petals are 4 to 5 millimeters long and have a reddish central rib.

Systematics and distribution

Aichryson dumosum is common in the southwest of Madeira at heights of 300 to 400 meters.

The first description as Sempervivum dumosum by Richard Thomas Lowe was published in 1864. Robert Lloyd Praeger placed the species in 1932 in the genus Aichryson .
