rubber boots

The French company Aigle International SA produces functional clothing , outdoor equipment (e.g. backpacks), rubber boots and shoes. Aigle is particularly known for producing handcrafted rubber boots. Aigle was the first company in the world to use vulcanized rubber for the production of waterproof rubber boots .

history

The US-American Hiram Hutchinson founded the company "Compagnie du Caoutchouc Souple" in France in 1853, shortly afterwards renamed Hutchinson SA , with a first manufacturing facility in the former Papeterie Royale de Langlée in Châlette-sur-Loing , which specializes in the production of specialized in rainproof shoes, boots and clothing and based on an invention by Charles Goodyear . Hutchinson chose the American eagle as the brand for his company: "À L'Aigle".

In the 1950s, the Aigle collection was expanded to include recreational sports and shoes. The Châtellerault plant mainly produced canvas shoes for tennis and basketball. Approximately 1,850 workers were employed in shoe production and around 30,000 pairs of shoes were produced every day.

In 1967 production was relocated to a former US military base near Ingrandes-sur-Vienne . The production at that time reached 10 million rubber boots per year.

In 1972 the Botte Marine was created for Marc Pajot . 1973 Aigle developed a comfortable rubber riding boots called Ecuyer , which has a gusset, thus like a riding boot in leather looks. The Ecuyer became very successful.

With the oil crisis , Hutchinson SA , meanwhile highly diversified and mainly active as an OEM of rubber-based industrial products, got into increasing difficulties. In 1974, the majority of Hutchinson SA was taken over by the then state-controlled French mineral oil company Total and incorporated into the Chemical Division. In 1978 the clothing division was spun off from Hutchinson and continued in the form of Aigle SA as a separate division within the Total group. With the privatization of the Total Group in 1992, Aigle SA went public in 1994. The British investment fund Apax Partners took over 80% of the shares in Aigle SA.

The company expanded increasingly into the luxury segment . In 1990 Aigle opened the first store on the Boulevard Saint-Germain in Paris. Aigle designed the first textile collection a year earlier. In 2000, Aigle operated more than 100 stores worldwide, 46 of them in Europe and 56 in Asia.

In 2003, 91.2% of Aigle was taken over by the Swiss company Maus Frères Holding SA , based in Geneva , and at the same time taken off the stock exchange and renamed Aigle International SA.

All Aigle products have had today's logo of the green eagle since 2005. In 2008 there were 207 Aigle stores worldwide: 66 in France, 17 in the rest of Europe and 124 in Asia.

The logo represents a flying eagle. It should symbolize the brand's values: emotions and dreams. The American eagle also refers to Charles Goodyear, who invented the vulcanization process.
