The Aiguilles Marbrées ( 3535  m ) is a mountain in the Mont-Blanc group in which several rock towers that are quite close together tower up. The mountain has two main peaks, the north peak and the south peak, the latter being lower (3483 m). The border between France and Italy runs over both main peaks and the two most pronounced ridges of the mountain, the northeast and south ridge. In the north-west of the mountain there are two more peaks named after Michel and Alphonse Payot , mountain guides from Chamonix .

Seen from the north, the main summit forms an elegant pyramid. Its northeast ridge descends to the Col de Rochefort (3385 m), which separates the mountain from the Dent du Géant . The south ridge connects north and south peaks. West of the south summit is the Col du Géant (3356 m), which separates the mountain from the Pointe Helbronner (3462 m), which is accessible by cable car. On the northwest side of the mountain is the Glacier du Géant .

The French name of the mountain literally means "marble needles". This is said to be due to the fact that there is marble here.

Summit routes

Less than a kilometer southwest of the summit is the Pointe Helbronner, accessible by cable car, and the Rifugio Torino . That is why the mountain can be reached in a very short high-altitude tour , with only 200 meters of altitude to be overcome. The normal route leads over the northeast ridge, which can be reached via the Glacier du Géant. Usually you enter the ridge a little above the Col de Rochefort. The ridge requires combined climbing up to III. Difficulty level, the evaluation using the high-speed scale is WS +.

The somewhat longer south ridge is hardly more difficult and is also easy to reach from the Rifugio Torino or the Pointe Helbronner, which makes it relatively easy to cross the mountain.
