The Dent du Géant ( Italian Dente del Gigante - German  "tooth of the giant" ) is with a height of 4013  m a low, but, due to its outstanding shape, nevertheless imposing four-thousand-meter in the Mont-Blanc group on the border between France and Italy . In addition to the higher north-east summit ( Pointe Graham ), the south-west summit ( Pointe Sella ) also rises above the 4000 m mark with 4009  m . To the west lies the Glacier du Géant , over which the cable car takes you from Entrèves near Courmayeur via Pointe Helbronner and Aiguille du Midi to Chamonix .

The first ascent of the lower south-west summit was achieved on July 29, 1882 by Alessandro Corradino, the brothers Alfonso and Gaudenzio Sella from Biella with guides Jean-Joseph, Daniel and Baptiste Maquignaz from Breuil , who nailed their way through the south-west face with considerable use of materials. Three weeks later, on August 20, 1882, the British WW Graham followed in their footsteps with guides Alphonse Payot and Auguste Cupelin, this rope team reached the main summit. Soon afterwards, the smooth slabs in the southwest face were secured with fixed ropes , which have now been hanging there for many decades and turn the ascent into rope-hanging. The normal route is indicated today with III (places), otherwise II, but if the fixed ropes are not used, with V +.

The summit is best reached from the Turin hut (ital. Rifugio Torino ) ( 3371  m slm ) from the Italian side.

From Dent du Géant, the Rochefort Ridge runs over the Aiguille de Rochefort ( 4001  m ), Mont Mallet ( 3989  m ) and Dôme de Rochefort ( 4015  m ) to the Grandes Jorasses ( 4208  m ).
