history

Model of the Turin Hut (Museum of the Alps - Fortress of Bard )

The first hut, the Rifugio Torino Vecchio , on the Colle del Gigante ( French Col du Géant ) below the Pointe Helbronner was built in 1898 (renovated in 1963). This is where the mountain station of the cable car , opened in 1948, is located , which leads up from La Palud ( 1375  m ) near Courmayeur . Since 1958, there has been another cable car connection, the Vallée Blanche small cabin lift, to the Aiguille du Midi ( 3842  m ). A steep iron staircase that is completely walled in was built to connect the two huts.

Access

  • From La Palud (near Courmayeur) on foot about six hours, with the cable car a few minutes
