Aikaterini Nikolaidou (born October 22, 1992 in Katerini ) is a Greek rower . She was the European lightweight champion - one in 2013 and 2014.

Career

Nikolaidou has been rowing since 2007 and took part in the Junior World Championships for the first time in 2009 , but missed the A final with the double foursome. At the Junior World Championships 2010 she started in the single and finished third. In 2011 she started in the single in the World Cup, but only reached the C final twice, at the U23 World Championships she won the B final in the single. Nikolaidou reached her first A-final in the adult class at the 2011 European Championships in Plovdiv when she finished fourth. In 2012 she and Eleni Diamanti won silver in double sculls at the U23 World Championships, and at the European Championships in 2012 , the two achieved tenth place.

It wasn't until 2013 that the 1.80 m tall athlete switched to lightweight rowing. At the 2013 European Championships in Seville, she won the lightweight single as well as the U23 World Championships in Linz. She was also successful at the Mediterranean Games . At the 2013 World Championships in Chungju , South Korea , Nikolaidu won silver behind the Austrian Michaela Taupe-Traer , who she had defeated at the European Championships. In 2014 Nikolaidu was able to defend her title at the European Championships in Belgrade . At the 2014 World Championships in Amsterdam she finished second behind the Belgian Eveline Peleman .

In 2015 Nikolaidou competed with Sofia Asoumanaki in a double scull with no weight limit, the two won the silver medal at the 2015 World Championships behind the New Zealand and in front of the German boat. At the 2016 Olympic Games , the two achieved fourth place.
