Ailyn , née Pilar Giménez García (born May 29, 1982 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish singer . She gained fame especially as the singer of the Norwegian symphonic metal band Sirenia , of which she was a member from 2008 to 2016.

Life

Ailyn started her musical career at the age of 15, when she began solfege and classical singing at the Albéniz School of Music to Barcelona to study . She made her first public appearance in 2002 in Cornellà de Llobregat as part of a charity event.

She got her first record deal as a member of Charm , a female vocal trio that performed Japanese music. After the first album Konnichiwa was released in 2003 , Ailyn began to work on a solo career. She left Charm in 2004 after completing a few tracks for the anime series Kimagure Orange Road .

In September 2005 she represented Spain at the International Pop Music Festival Canzoni Dal Mondo and was one of the 10 finalists. A little later she received awards at the International Song Festival in the Canary Islands , including for Puedo Sentir , a cover version of the song Fall in Love by Lena Park .

In May 2007 she took part in the Spanish version of the casting show X Factor in the 16-25 year old category, but dropped out in the fourth show.

On April 9, 2008 it was announced that Ailyn was selected from 500 applicants as the new singer of the symphonic metal band Sirenia. She made her debut in 2009 on the album The 13th Floor . Three more studio albums followed, as well as numerous concerts in Europe and South America. Ailyn also appeared with Sirenia at various festivals such as the Wacken Open Air 2011.

After Sirenia had already performed a few gigs without Ailyn in June 2016, the band announced on July 5, 2016 the separation from the singer “for personal reasons”.

Guest appearances

In 2011 Ailyn was a guest singer on the album Death & Legacy by the Austrian metal band Serenity .

She had another guest appearance with the Greek symphonic metal band Enemy Of Reality . The music video for the song Needle Bites was released on October 6, 2014.
