The Ainsworth E. Blunt House (also known as Blunt House ) is a historic house in Dalton , and is located in Whitfield County in the US state of Georgia , in the United States . 506 is on South Thornton Avenue .
history
The Blunt House is considered the second oldest two-story building in Dalton. It was the residence of Ainsworth Emery Blunt , first Mayor of Dalton and head of the local post office. Blunt was born on February 22, 1800 in Amherst , New Hampshire . The local Cherokee were trained by him in the trades of carpenters , blacksmiths and cooper . In addition, he brought the Indians closer to the Christian doctrine.
The building, which is aligned in the Federal Style and kept in the Victorian style , was completed in 1848. When Blunt and his family moved to Illinois in 1864 , the house was initially used as a military hospital by the Union Army and later occupied by the Confederate States Army . After the Civil War , Blunt returned to Dalton and the house remained family-owned until his granddaughter died in 1978.
The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 9, 1980 as a monument under number 80004460 .
