Air Jamaica was a Jamaican airline based in Kingston and based at the Norman Manley International Airport there . in May 2011 it merged with Caribbean Airlines .

history

Air Jamaica was founded on April 1st, 1969. In November 1994 the airline was taken over by the Air Jamaica Acquisition Group (AJAG), the state retained 25% of the shares. It was extensively modernized, but the financial losses increased in the following years. Since December 2004, the airline was again completely in state hands. The fleet was reduced from 20 to seven aircraft, but the losses continued to increase.

Air Jamaica was bought by Caribbean Airlines in May 2010 , which continued Air Jamaica's flights until 2013 under the name Air Jamaica and its IATA code BW. The state of Jamaica has since owned 16% of Caribbean Airlines.

Destinations

Air Jamaica served Kingston , Nassau and Montego Bay in the Caribbean , while in North America it served New York City , Philadelphia , Fort Lauderdale , Orlando and Toronto . Long-haul flights are currently no longer offered. Caribbean Airlines has continued to operate since the merger.
