M. approx. 20 km (driving distance) southeast of Agadir on the south bank of the Oued Souss in the west of the Souss plain ; the neighboring town of Inezgane is only 10 km to the west. Official population statistics have only been kept and published since 1994.

year 1994 2004 2014
Residents 82,825 130,370 171,847

The rapid increase in population is mainly due to the immigration of Berber families from the surrounding mountain regions of the Anti-Atlas .

economy

The place used to be a small farming community in the west of the Souss plain , but now trade, crafts and various service companies play the dominant economic role.

History and sights

Nothing is known about the earlier history of the place; the spacious modern city with its mostly three-story residential and commercial buildings - above a ground floor serving as a garage, warehouse or shop - and its straight road network has no historically or culturally significant sights.
