Aki Akao

Aki Akao ( Japanese 赤 尾 亜 希 , Akao Aki ; born October 20, 1982 in Hita ) is a Japanese badminton player .

Career

She is the younger sister of the badminton player Miyo Akao and, like her, attended the Shōwa girls' high school (today: Shōwa-Gakuen high school) in Hita. Both took part in the 1999 Badminton High School Championships, where they came second in doubles, and the Inter-High High School Championships, where they got third in women's doubles. Just like her sister, she then joined the Yonex company to play for their factory team.

Aki Akao also took part in the women's doubles with Tomomi Matsuda in the Japanese General Championships , where they came third in 2003 and 2004, second in 2005 and third again in 2006 and 2007.

Both won bronze in women's doubles at the Asian Cup in 2003 . At the 2006 World Cup, they both won 9th place together. At the 2007 World Cup they finished 9th again. At the US Open of the same year, however, they made it to the finals, but lost to their compatriots Miyuki Maeda and Satoko Suetsuna in just three sets. In the French Super Series 2007 , the pairing was in the quarter-finals as well as in the Japan Super Series 2007 and the Swiss Open Super Series 2007 .
