history

The Isometric 30 VF racket

The company was founded by Minoru Yoneyama in April 1946 and manufactured, among other things, wooden floats for purse seine fishing . With the introduction of plastic floats , Yonex was pushed out of this market. In 1957, Yoneyama began making badminton rackets for other brands. In 1958 the company was renamed Yoneyama Manufacturing Ltd. renamed. In 1962, the first Yoneyama brand badminton racket was introduced and a year later, Yoneyama Sports Ltd. founded in order to be able to sell the products worldwide. In 1966 the name was again changed to Yoneyama Racquets Ltd.

After the company started making badminton rackets from aluminum , it decided in 1969 to also sell tennis rackets. In 1974 the name was changed to Yonex Sports Ltd.

Yonex Sports was founded in West Germany in 1981. When Yonex experimented with graphite necks for badminton and tennis rackets, it turned out that these could also be useful for golf clubs . Therefore, Yonex entered the golf business in 1982. In the same year the name was changed to Yonex Co., Ltd. In 1987 Yonex UK Ltd. and Yonex Taiwan Co., Ltd. founded and in 1991 Yonex Canada Ltd.

In 1992, Yonex introduced the Isometric 500 racket , which did not have a teardrop-shaped head like the previous rackets. The more rectangular head gave the racket a much larger face and led other manufacturers to follow suit and introduce rackets with a "square-head" or " isometric " design. In 1994 Yonex went public on the Tokyo Stock Exchange .
