The Froidmont Monastery (Frigidus Mons) is a former Cistercian abbey in the commune of Campremy in the Oise department of the Hauts-de-France region in France . It was about 15 km southeast of Beauvais on the western edge of the forest of Hez-Froidmont ( Forêt domaniale de Hez-Froidmont ).

history

The monastery was founded in 1134 by Adelheid von Dammartin (or Waleran von Baudemont) with the support of Bishop Odon II of Beauvais on the banks of the Trie stream and was occupied by monks from the Ourscamp monastery . So it belonged to the filiation of the Clairvaux Primary Abbey . With the support of Kings Philip II and Louis the Holy, the Cisterce blossomed quickly and set up several grangia (in addition to the Gouy, Grand-Maisnil, Cormeilles, Brunvillers-la-Motte, La Verrerie and La Vieille Abbaye), cellars and vineyards a. The trouvère Hélinand von Froidmont and the writer Thomas von Beverley lived in the monastery in the 12th century . In 1358 the monks had to flee to their home in Beauvais during the times of the Jacquerie , a peasant uprising. In the 15th century the abbey suffered from attacks from England, in the 16th from those of the Calvinists . All of this initially led to a relaxation of discipline, but in the 18th century the monastery was considered the one of general observance that had best remained true to the rules of the order. In the French Revolution it was dissolved in 1791.

The ruins have been registered as a Monument historique since 1988 , the Grangie has been classified as such since 1995.

The Grange de Grandmesnil

In the municipality of Campremy , the remains of the Grange de Grandmesnil from 1210 (partly registered as a monument historique in 1988) can be found.
