Akiko Grace

Akiko Grace ( Japanese ア キ コ ・ グ レ ー ス , Akiko Gurēsu ; born August 13, 1973 in Kanagawa Prefecture ) is a Japanese jazz pianist .

Akiko Grace started playing the piano at the age of three, encouraged by her mother, who teaches classical piano. As a teenager she discovered jazz . She completed her studies at the University of the Arts Tokyo in musicology and at the Berklee College of Music in piano. After her debut album From New York (Savoy), released in 2002 , in which Ron Carter and Bill Stewart were involved, she presented a number of albums, mostly in trio with musicians such as Larry Grenadier , Gary Peacock , Eddie Gomez , Bill Laswell , Ari Hoenig , George Garzone and Kiyoto Fujiwara were recorded. 2004 had the opportunity to record the album From Oslo with Grenadier and Jon Christensen in Jan Erik Kongshaug's studio. Grace received numerous awards including the Grand Prize for Japanese jazz of Swing Journal and the prize for best concert performance of the year of the Music Pen Club Japan.
