Akira Ishikawa (legal scholar)

Akira Ishikawa ( Japanese 石川 明 Ishikawa Akira; born November 27, 1931 in Yokohama ; † June 2015 ) was a Japanese lawyer and professor at the University of Tokyo .

Life

Ishikawa studied law at Keiō University from 1950 to 1954 , where he earned his master's degree in 1956. From 1959 to 1961, Ishikawa stayed for the first time as part of a DAAD research stay in Germany at the University of Munich . After returning to Japan, he was an associate professor at Keiō University until 1967 . From 1967 until his retirement in 1994 he was full professor for civil law and civil procedural law there. Since his retirement, Ishikawa has been involved in the master's and doctoral courses at Asahi University in Mizuho . During his academic career, Ishikawa worked repeatedly in Germany. In 1971 he was visiting professor at the law faculty of Saarland University , which in 1988 awarded him an honorary doctorate . In 1975 he held a visiting professorship at the University of Cologne , from which he was awarded an honorary doctorate in 1985. From 1996 to 2004, Ishikawa held lectures at the University of Trier after his retirement . In 2000 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit.
