Gerhard Lüke

Gerhard Lüke (born February 21, 1927 in Hildesheim ; † April 28, 2014 in Saarbrücken ) was a German law scholar and professor at the University of Saarland .

Life

After a serious wound in World War II and graduating from high school, Lüke studied law at the University of Frankfurt am Main from 1946 . There he passed the two state law exams. In 1953 he did his doctorate in Frankfurt under Gerhard Schiedermair . Also under Schiedermair, Lüke completed his habilitation in 1958 and received the venia legendi for the subjects of civil law, civil procedural law and administrative procedural law with the unpublished work The Subject of Disputes in Civil and Administrative Processes. After working as a private lecturer at the University of Frankfurt am Main, he accepted a professorship for procedural law, civil law and labor law at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken. Lüke remained loyal to Saarland University, despite calls to the universities of Frankfurt and Tübingen, until his retirement in 1995. His work was only interrupted by visiting professorships at the University of Chicago (1966), Keiō University (1966) and Kyūshū University (1970).

He remained connected to Japanese law. In 1987 in Saarbrücken, for example, he was one of the co-initiators of the German-Japanese Society there . Since 1966 he has also been an honorary member of the Japanese Civil Litigation Association. In 1970 the Keio University awarded him an honorary doctorate . In 1991, Lüke was awarded the Order of the Holy Treasure on a necklace with golden rays by the Japanese Emperor.

Gerhard Lüke was co-editor of the legal training magazine and the Munich Commentary on the Code of Civil Procedure . He was the father of two children, including Professor Wolfgang Lüke .
