Akmal Anvarovich Irgashev ( Russian Акмал Анварович Эргашев Akmal Anvarovich Ergaschew ; * December 16, 1982 ) is an Uzbek taekwondoin , who starts in the heavyweight division.

Irgashev played his first international title fights at the Asian Cup in 2006 in Bangkok and the World Cup in Beijing in 2007 , but retired there early. In contrast, the year 2008 was successful. Irgashev won his first international medal in Henan with bronze at the Asian Cup. He qualified for the Olympic Games in Beijing, where he was defeated in the over 80 kilogram class in the quarterfinals against Cha Dong-min , but reached the battle for bronze via the hope round. After a narrow defeat to Chika Chukwumerije , he missed an Olympic medal and finished fifth. He won a bronze medal at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou . Irgashev contested his most successful world championship to date in Gyeongju in 2011 . With four wins he reached the heavyweight final, where he lost to Jo Chol-ho , but won his first world championship medal with silver. At the Asian Olympic qualification tournament in Bangkok in 2011, he won the decisive battle for third place in the over 80 kilogram class and qualified for his second Olympic Games in London in 2012 .
