Akoubounou is a rural municipality in the department Abalak in Niger .

geography

Akoubounou is located in the northern Sahel zone . The neighboring communities are Abalak in the northeast, Azèye in the southeast, Ibohamane in the south, Tabalak in the southwest and Kao in the northwest. The municipality is divided into 17 administrative villages, 18 traditional villages, nine hamlets and three camps. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village of Akoubounou. Ait-Awari also live here .

history

The rural community Akoubounou emerged as an administrative unit in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform from a part of a previously community-free area.

At the 2001 census, Akoubounou had 10,348 residents. At the 2012 census, the population was 47,961.

Culture and sights

The Shiriken Camel Festival takes place in Akoubounou every two years .

Economy and Infrastructure

The parish is located at the transition from the agropastoral zone of the south to the zone of pure grazing in the north. The national road 25 runs through Akoubounou, which connects the place via Abalak with the regional capital Agadez and via Tabalak with the regional capital Tahoua .
