history

Tabalak was originally a small Tuareg village that attracted large numbers of immigrants during the drought in the 1970s. In the mid-1970s, the economic importance of the fishery operated on the Mare de Tabalak and other small lakes, which until then had only been carried out by a few migrant Nigerians and Nigerians from the Niger River , grew . Fishing complemented cattle breeding, a traditional domain of the Tuareg, and agriculture , which was mainly practiced by Hausa . In 1974 a weekly market was established in Tabalak. The supra-regionally important trade in fish went hand in hand with an increasing urbanization of tobacco. In 2002, as part of a nationwide administrative reform, the independent rural community of Tabalak was created in a previously unincorporated area.
