Ibohamane (also: Ibohaman ) is a rural community in the Keita department in Niger .

geography

Ibohamane is located in the Sahel region . The neighboring communities are Akoubounou in the north, Azèye in the east, Tabotaki in the southeast, Garhanga in the southwest and Keita in the west. The municipality is divided into 67 villages, 33 hamlets, a camp and a water point. The main town of the rural community is the village of Ibohamane. Another larger village in the municipality is Tabofat .

Large parts of the rural community including the main town are located in the Ader Doutchi mountainous landscape . The main valleys in the municipality are the Tinkirana Valley, where the main town of Ibohamane is located, as well as the Gadamata Valley, the Janguébé Valley, the Keita Valley, the Loudou Valley, the Seyté Valley and the Tabofat Valley. In the fertile plateaus of Ibohamane, which are used as pastureland, Boscia senegalensis , Guiera senegalensis and Acacia laeta dominate the vegetation. The valleys in which agriculture predominates are characterized by Bauhinia rufescens , Piliostigma reticulatum and desert dates. Sandy plains extend to the east of the rural community.

history

According to tradition, is derived the place name Ibrohamane a "Aboham" called sorghum - Cultivar ago, which was cultivated long ago in the valley. The rural community Ibohamane emerged as an administrative unit in 2002 in a nationwide administrative reform from part of the canton of Keita.

population

At the 2001 census, Ibohamane had 61,018 inhabitants. At the 2012 census, the population was 88,724. The majority of the population are Tuareg , and Hausa and Fulbe also live in the rural community.

Economy and Infrastructure

Ibohamane lies at the transition from the agropastoral zone in the north to the rain-fed zone in the south. In addition to agriculture, livestock, trade and handicrafts are the main economic activities in the rural community. The Ibohamane Dam was put into operation in 1970 and the neighboring Tegueleguel Dam in 2010.

There are three health centers ( French : centers de santé intégrés ) and nine health houses (French: cases de santé ), the latter functioning inadequately and the health facilities being unevenly distributed across the municipality. In the education system there are 53 primary schools, two Islamic schools and two general secondary schools. The middle schools are located in the main town of Ibohamane and in the village of Gadamata. There is a cattle market in the main town. The market day is Thursday.
