The Aksu ( Chinese  阿克苏 河 , Pinyin Ākèsū Hé ) is one of the source rivers of the Tarim in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China .

The Aksu arises at the confluence of the Kumarik and Toxkan rivers about 10 km west of the city of Aksu at an altitude of 1270  m . It flows in a south-southeast direction through the Tarim Basin without any drainage and after about 120 km it meets the much less watery Yarkant with which the Aksu joins to form the Tarim. The catchment area of the Aksu is 31,982 km². The mean discharge is 249 m³ / s. The Aksu provides 70–80% of the water in the Tarim.
