biography

Al Leiter was signed to the New York Yankees in the 1984 draft . He made his debut with the Yankees on September 15, 1987 in the American League . His performances with the Yankees were not very convincing, so that he was sold from New York to the Toronto Blue Jays . With the Blue Jays he played only eight games in the first three years due to various injuries. So he could not win his first game for the Blue Jays until 1993. However, he was able to help the Blue Jays to win the World Series this season .

In 1995 he had his first injury-free year as a professional baseball player. After the season he moved to the Florida Marlins , who had offered him a lucrative three-year contract. On May 11, 1996 he threw the first no-hitter in Florida Marlin history and the only one in his career. The Marlins defeated the Colorado Rockies 11-0 that day at Joe Robbie Stadium . For the first time this season he took part in the All-Star game. In 1997 he showed average performance again, but reached the World Series with the Marlins against the Cleveland Indians . In the seventh game, he was set up as the starter by Jim Leyland , the manager of the Marlins. Leiter did well, only allowing 2 runs in 6 innings. The Marlins won the game 3-2 after 11 innings and secured their first World Series in the fifth year of their existence.

In 1998, Leiter moved back to New York, this time to city rival Mets . In 2000 he reached the World Series against the Yankees with the Mets. There he threw in the fifth game of the series. Leader ended the game as a loser, but had thrown 142 balls and thanks to this perseverance gained the reputation of the New York audience. In 2005 he switched back to the Marlins, where he did not perform as expected. Since the Yankees had four start throwers injured, he returned to the starting point at the end of his career. In his first game with the Yankees, he won a win against the Boston Red Sox . In the further course of the season he was mainly used as a substitute thrower.

His resignation announced on March 19, 2006 leader in a preparation game against the Cleveland Indians .
